Paramount Pictures has officially delayed the release of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbenderthe animated movie that will continue the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Originally slated for an October 2025 release, the movie was first delayed to January 2026, while it is now set to debut on October 9, 2026. The logo was also revealed today.

Lauren Montgomery, known for her work on both Avatar and The Legend of Korrawill direct the film, with William Mata serving as co-director. The screenplay is being developed with input from the original creators.
Notably, none of the original voice actors from the 2000s series are returning. The main cast has been fully recast and includes:
Entirely New Voice Cast
- Eric Nam as a result
- Jessica Matten as katara
- Román Zaragoza as shock
- Dionne Quan as Toph Beifong
- Dave Bautista as the film’s central antagonist
- Steven Yeun in an undisclosed role
This recasting decision was made by Avatar Studios and casting director Jenny Jue in consultation with the original creators. The aim was to reflect the cultural inspirations behind the show’s world, primarily East, South, and Indigenous Asian traditions, with more appropriate voice representation. Mae Whitman, the original voice of Katara, has voiced public support for this move, saying: “I’m so happy to pass the torch on, I’m so thrilled to be a part of her growth and I feel it’s important for us all to grow. For us to move on towards things that are more true and honest. I’m thrilled to have a little piece of that in my heart, forever, and I really can’t wait to see where she goes next.”
The film is produced by DiMartino, Konietzko, Latifa Ouaou, and Maryann Garger, with Eric Coleman returning as executive producer.
Animation and Studio Collaboration
Production is shared between Flying Bark Productions in Sydney and Studio me. The film will blend traditional 2D techniques with selective CG elements, aiming for a cinematic presentation that respects the visual identity of the original series while embracing modern enhancements.
