Veteran K-drama actress Kim Young-ok, known as the “National Grandma,” recently demonstrated her long-standing friendship with MONSTA X’s Joohoney by attending his group’s concert.

On the 13th, Kim Young-ok uploaded a video titled “Kim Young-ok: The 87-Year-Old Grandma’s Concert-Going Health Routine” on her official YouTube channel. In the video, she shared how she received an invitation to the Kpop concert. Joohoney told me that MONSTA X is having a concert. He asked, ‘Teacher-nim, we’re going to hold it at KSPO Dome, will you be able to come?’ I laughed and replied, ‘Of course, I can! My legs are still strong!’

The actress expressed her excitement to see her ‘grandsons’ perform. Upon arriving at the venue, she was greeted by Joohoney’s staff, who gave her a new light stick and escorted her to her assigned seat. Awestruck by the jam-packed stadium, she exclaimed, Wow, what in the world! So many fans… all young people! During one of MONSTA X’s ballad performances, Joohoney spotted her in the audience, offered her a bright smile, and waved at her. Overflowing with emotions, she stood up to enjoy the performances more and shed tears, saying, This is so nice…

After the concert, the MONSTA X members visited Kim Young-ok in the waiting room. She had prepared gifts for them—a bottle of whiskey and chocolates. She expressed her appreciation, saying, You must be tired, but you all came. You didn’t have to! Kim also shared that she cried during the show due to the group’s high energy. The members then taught her the ‘Monbebe hand sign’ and posed for pictures together. As she was leaving the concert venue, Kim Young-ok encountered some fans in the parking lot. The young girls cheered for her, saying, Please go home safely! She expressed her gratitude, remarking, It felt like my life span got longer!

Kim Young-ok and MONSTA X’s rapper Joohoney first met on the set of JTBC’s “Tribe of Hip-hop,” where he served as her rap coach. Their heartwarming bond has flourished over the years, despite the nearly 50-year age gap, and they have now been friends for over nine years.

Kim Young-ok is well-known for portraying grandmother roles in popular K-dramas such as “Coffee Prince,” “Boys Over Flowers,” “Reply 1988,” “Hometown Cha Cha Cha,” and “King the Land,” among many others. Meanwhile, MONSTA X debuted in 2015 under Starship Entertainment and is recognized for their hit songs, including “Hero,” “Shoot Out,” “Who Do U Love?,” and “DRAMARAMA.”
