As part of a recent interview with Deadline, Showrunner Adi Shankar spoke that when he was adapted by “Devil May Cry” he had actually not given the two companies Capcom and Netflix. We summarize.

According to his own statement, Shankar is “a huge fan” by Capcom and took a closer look at all of the company’s titles at an early stage to find out that would have the potential for adaptation.

When he finally committed himself to the popular “Hack-and-Slash” video game, he started right away and immediately received the right to produce an anime adaptation with his convincing vision.

But instead of discussing further planning with a streaming partner, he sat down alone and developed the entire first anime relay with all eight episodes. Only then had he imagined at Netflix:

“I just called Netflix and said: ‘I am ready to do that’. And they said: ‘Great, let’s start with the development.

But I said: ›No, no, no. It is already developed. Here are the scripts and here is a soundtrack list. They were speechless and said: ‘Wow, it actually doesn’t work. But they read everything and were thrilled. “

In the previous years, Shankar was responsible for the series “Castlevania” and “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix” inspired by video games in Netflix before “Devil May Cry” finally celebrated its premiere in April 2025. A second season is now in the works.
