One of the most riveting releases of the summer 2024 anime season, The Elusive Samurai seemingly burst onto the scene out of nowhere, capturing the attention of fans with its stellar animation, compelling historical plot, and exceptional blend of action and comedy. Based on a rather obscure period of Japanese history — the Kenmu Restoration — the series loosely follows the life story of Hojo Tokiyuki, the son of an overthrown Shogunal Regent seeking revenge for his family.
With only a handful of supporters and his extraordinary elusiveness to rely on, the young lord must rise from the ashes and take back his rightful position. While the series enjoyed plenty of success in Japan, it was practically unheard of overseas before the anime introduced the incredible series to new fans.
