The second season of “Mediterralist” was only confirmed a few days ago, but it is already struggling with production problems. We summarize.
Not enough animators
The anime adaptation of »Medalist« can certainly be described as a biggest surprise by the past winter season 2025, which a very impressive myanimelist score of 8.4/10 is more than clearly underlining.
No wonder that the production of a second season was confirmed immediately after the last episode. But apparently there is already the first problem, as director Yasutaka Yamamoto recently announced on X (formerly Twitter):
»The production of season 2 has started, but we don’t have enough animators. At the first season we were lucky that some of the manga are fans of the team and joined the project, but if someone sees the anime and wants to try it, they can still participate! «
Bad prospects?
The first season of “Medalist” was praised in particular for its liquid animations and the impressive representation of the figure skating, which is why the lack of animators are very concerned that the quality could suffer.
Although lack of staff in the anime industry-favored by poor payment and high workload-is actually nothing new, we still want to hope that the “Mediterranist” team will be reinforced in good time.
At the moment it is still unclear when the sequel will be broadcast on Japanese television. Anyone who has not yet seen the 13-part first season will find it in Germany with German subtitles on Disney+.
