After Crunchyroll had tested artificial intelligence in recent months, these plans are now largely obsolete. We summarize.
No AI in the creative area
In February 2024, Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini announced that the streaming service would deal with the various possible uses of artificial intelligence, among other things in the creation of subtitles to enable faster international publication-whereby a final decision should now have been made.
As part of an interview with Forbes, Purini promised that artificial intelligence would not come into contact with anime content, since one would like to maintain authenticity in production and the AI would not be considered part of the creative process, such as synchronization or subtitement.
In this regard, Crunchyroll would clearly stand on the side of the creators. The provider should also collect significantly to the fans, who had reacted to the announcement of the AI test at that time with violent debates and reserved.
However, one will not completely do without artificial intelligence. It is planned to use AI for the backend systems to improve the findability of content, recommendations and personalization-i.e. as a means of optimizing the customer experience and not for the content itself.
