As part of an interview with three former manga editors, it became known that Akira Toriyama wanted to end the story of “Dragon Ball” much earlier, but was denied it by the editorial team. We summarize.
Strong pressure from the editorial team
According to Kazuhiko Torishima, Yu Kondo and Fuyuto Takeda, Mangaka, who died last year, would have actually wanted to end his successful series with the Freezer saga-after all, both Piccolo and Son Goku discovered their true origin and the latter defeated the extraterrestrial tyrant Freezer and thus raised the Saiyajin.
However, due to the extraordinary success of “Dragon Ball”, Toriyama was put under considerably under pressure by the editorial team to continue the series. He would have been forced to consent and created the Cell-Saga-and repeatedly repeated that after this story section was finally over.
Although Takeda would have supported him in his wish, the editorial team of the “Weekly Shonen Jump” magazine from Shueisha once again went across the author’s creative wishes. After all, Toriyama was still allowed to end his work in May 1995 after 519 chapters with the conclusion of the “Majin Buu Saga”.
In Germany, the manga series was brought to the market by Carlsen-Verlag, while the anime adaptation is available at Crunchyroll on DVD and Blu-ray.
