Every Time Yuji Eats Sukuna’s Fingers, Explained

Twenty cursed fingers scattered across Japan in Jujutsu Kaisen have the unlikely potential to manifest a reincarnation of the world’s most dangerous sorcerer, Ryomen Sukuna. Over one thousand years before the start of the series, the ancient figure develops a name for himself as the King of Curses, the most powerful and ruthless sorcerer of his era. Yuji Itadori is the rare human found to be a compatible host for the reincarnated sorcerer after he eats one of Sukuna’s fingers, thus beginning his journey into the jujutsu world.
Ryomen Sukuna’s reincarnation triggers the Jujutsu Society to prioritize their mission to collect all twenty of the cursed fingers to seal and destroy them. Although Yuji must inevitably be killed for Sukuna’s finger to be destroyed, Satoru Gojo advocates for Yuji Itadori to be allowed to live until he can absorb all twenty fingers, extending Yuji’s life by delaying his execution. These conditions set Yuji Itadori’s trajectory as a novice jujutsu sorcerer searching for Sukuna’s remaining fingers under Gojo’s instruction with teammates Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugusaki.
Every one of Sukuna’s twenty fingers has enough power to kill most humans if eaten, but they also carry a small chance to reincarnate the ancient evil sorcerer. Yuji Itadori shocks the jujutsu world when he becomes Ryomen Sukuna’s new vessel after eating one of them. Before the life-changing event paves the way for his future as a sorcerer, Yuji joins Sugiwara High’s Occult Club, leading him and two classmates straight to one of Sukuna’s fingers. Jujutsu sorcerer Megumi Fushiguro first collides with Yuji Itadori at Sugiwara High because the Cursed Energy of Sukuna’s finger draws strong curses to attack.
