The Japanese government is trying to remove the grievances of the anime industry, but what has been implemented so far? We summarize below.
No work without a contract
The exploitation within the anime industry has been an omnipresent topic for many years, but in the past few months-among other things through a United Nations report-it was increasingly wave, so that the Japanese government could no longer remove the situation.
Especially after the medium of anime had only been chosen as a global flagship of the country, one was forced to act – and have so far introduced the following measures to protect employees.
For example, a law recently came into force that prescribes written contracts for freelancers. What should actually be a matter of course has been handled in Japan and many freelancers often had to start work without seeing an employment contract at all. Even weeks, months and even years later, nothing would have changed in many cases.
However, this is no longer possible and an employment contract that clearly defines the wage and working conditions must have been signed by both sides before the start of the first day of work.
Paid overtime
In addition, the companies are now legally obliged to pay all wages or other fees within 60 days of completing the respective work. It is also prohibited from requesting additional work (overtime) without offering adequate remuneration.
In order for a certain control pressure to exist and the companies are really encouraged to comply with the legal changes, an Internet form was set up by the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) with which cases of exploitation or poor working conditions can be reported.
In a way, the plans of the Japanese government to invest in a AI system to combat anime piracy can also be mentioned. Finally, according to estimates, the financial losses of the anime industry amount to several billion euros per year by piracy-a lot of money, which would certainly find its way to the employee if present.
In the past two years, however, some large studios have already screwed on the salaries and have significantly increased them significantly. So it seems that the situation for the employees of the anime industry can gradually turn to better. We stay on the topic.
