The Merchandise specialist shop Figuya and the gaming expert Konsolekost recently announced that the common Figuya X Konsolekost Retail GmbH was founded, which will take over several former Gamestop areas in Germany. We summarize.
First branch in May 2025
In January 2025, the US trade chain Gamestop closed its last 69 of once 200 branches in Germany and thus completely retired from the German market. Many of the locations have been unused since then – but that should change soon.
Figuya, an online dealer for characters, merchandise and manga, which now also runs three own shops, and console food, a online shop specializing in video games, consoles and gaming accessories, have come together to breathe new life into several former Gamestop branches.
The new shop concept is intended to combine gaming and anime and thus create a meeting point for two related fan worlds: half current games and retro classics, the other half figures, trading cards and Japanese pop culture.
“We believe that two similar target groups meet here”explains Sebastian Kost, Managing Director of Figuya X Konsolekost Retail GmbH. “In the end, our two companies are about collecting & the passion behind it that you share”adds managing director Dr. Jessica Janus.
The “Trade-in” principle known from Gamestop should continue to be preserved and even expanded: Customers will soon be able to offer not only their old consoles and video games but also anime figures for sale-even defects are accepted, promises managing director Sebastian Kost.
The first location will be opened on May 10, 2025 in the Augsburg City Gallery. Further shops are to follow in German city centers at a later date.
