On May 1st, (G)I-DLE sent fans into a frenzy with the surprise announcement of a name change to “i-dle” ahead of their highly anticipated comeback.
Known for their fearless experimentation with different styles and concepts, the group has never shied away from reinventing themselves and this bold move is yet another testament to their dynamic presence in the K-pop industry.
The announcement came just a day before a major milestone which is the group’s 7th anniversary on May 2, marking seven years since their iconic debut with “LATATA.”
The name (G)I-DLE holds a special place in fans’ hearts. The “G” stands for “girl,” and the full name represents the Korean phrase “여자)아이들” (yeoja aideul), which translates to “girl idol.” This symbolic identity has been central to the group’s image and message since their debut.
The unexpected change has sparked both shock and anticipation, as fans eagerly speculate on what’s next. With a solid track record of setting high standards through powerful performances and genre-defying releases, expectations are sky-high.
