As part of an interview, “Guilty Crown” director Tetsurou Araki regretted the bad reception of the original anime. We summarize below.

Frustrierer anime

As director of great anime adaptations such as “Death Note” and the first three seasons of “Attack on Titan”, the 48-year-old Tetsurou Araki has already impressively demonstrated his skills. However, his intimate wish has so far been denied him-namely a successful original anime.

Araki had particularly hoped for “Guilty Crown”, whose premiere took place in the autumn season in 2011. The subsequent disappointment was therefore all the greater.

“What we have achieved with this series, what we did … I have the feeling that people give her too little recognition. For us it was a frustrating anime. Because we did some really impressive and difficult things, but in the end it was called a failed, bad anime. «

Wish continued to be unfulfilled

Even in the following years, he was denied the great success with the two original anime “Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress” and “Bubble”, but Araki continues to be combative to achieve his ambitious goal:

“Basically, it’s about what I always say: I want to make an original anime that will really go beyond the bank. But I haven’t achieved that yet. I know exactly what went wrong with ›Guilty Crown‹ and I want to prove that I can do it better. […] Just wait until you see my next project! “

In fan circles, “Guilty Crown” is particularly valued for its varied sci-fi settings, but also criticized for blatant weaknesses in WorldBuilding and the design of the characters. But rather we are interested in your opinion. Let us know in the comments how you found the anime!

The 22-part original anime “Guilty Crown” was broadcast on Japanese television between October 2011 and March 2012. In Germany, Peppermint Anime brought it onto DVD and Blu-ray some time ago. At the current time, the series is not available for any streaming service.
