Director Mamoru Hosoda’s new movie, Scarlet (Japanese title: Hateshinaki Scarlet) revealed the first visual and trailer, along with the premiere date for Japan and the United States. Produced by Studio Chizu, the movie stars Scarlet, a “strong princess who transcends time and space,” as its main character. The movie will premiere in Japan on November 11, while fans in the United States will be able to watch it from December 12, 2025.
Known for movies like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006), Summer Wars (2009), and Belle (2021), Hosoda is once again taking on the roles of director, screenwriter, and original creator. The director previously said that Scarlet is inspired by a “world-famous work on par with Beauty and the Beast.” You can watch the first visual below.

Mamoru Hosoda previously also teased that the Scarlet movie will feature a distinctive style, relying neither on traditional 2D animation nor Hollywood-style CG, as Studio Chizu seeks to create a completely fresh look.
