The popular animation studio Mappa recently brought two heavyweights from the anime industry on board to improve the company’s way of working. We summarize the details.
New external director
A few days ago, the renowned anime studio, which is particularly known for titles such as “Attack on Titan”, “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “Chainsaw Man”, announced its website that two leadership positions are filled.
Accordingly, Yuichi Fukushima, Vice President of Cloverwork and producer of anime titles such as “Your Lie in April”, “Darling in the Franxx” and “Akebi’s Sailor Uniform”, will now act as a non-managing external director.
In this position, Fukushima sits on the company’s supervisory board, who has the task of monitoring corporate strategy and management. This could help Mappa to improve its bad reputation in relation to the workload of animators and chaotic schedules in the future.
Promotion to Operating Officer
Furthermore, Motoi Okuno, who has been a member of the studio since 2017 and, as a 3DCG animation specialist, has now worked as an operating officer at “Attack on Titan” and “Chainsaw Man”.
He himself describes his work as a kind of bridge between production team and management so that both sides understand each other better. At Studio Mappa, this is said to have been clearly missing.
It remains to be seen how these new occupations will have an impact. In any case, Studio Mappa has a lot to do with the current broadcast of “Lazarus” and the production of the sequels of “Hell’s Paradise” and “Chainsaw Man” as well as the compilation film on “Jujutsu Kaisen”.
