The Summer 2024 anime season strengthens the new storyline of Oshi no Ko more and more with each episode. Episode 5 is mostly setup for the opening night of Tokyo Blade‘s play, but the episode is a strong and compelling one nonetheless. By now, Abiko’s and GOA’s clash over the script has been resolved, and Episode 5 lets viewers infer that the rehearsals are right on schedule and everything is ready for opening night. But even if the crew of Lala Lai are beating the odds on paper, some personal drama remains, and that’s why fans watch Oshi no Ko.
Episode 5 continues some ongoing personal conflicts with its cast, proving that even if the tight schedule isn’t an issue after all, actors like Aqua Hoshino, Akane Kurokawa, and Kana Arima have serious stakes in this. They stand to gain or lose more than the director and screenwriter might realize. This is getting painfully real for these characters, to the point Aqua’s Hoshino-style eye stars turn black, an ominous sign indeed.
It is no secret that Akane Kurokawa is quite attached to Aqua Hoshino, who agreed to play the role of her boyfriend for appearance’s sake. Akane will do anything to impress Aqua and be the girl he wants her to be, to the point she has learned to express her own Hoshino-style eye stars. For a brief time, Oshi no Ko set all that aside as Akane got swept up in the love triangle and accepted the role of Sayahime in the Tokyo Blade stage play, but in Episode 5, the anime brings back Akane’s obsessive ways. This time, Akane is ready to join her boyfriend’s revenge scheme and end a life, even if she doesn’t know all the gory details just yet. That’s how far she will go, and most likely, this will bring misery and trouble to Akane, whether Aqua succeeds in finding and killing his elusive father.
