The Sony Group Corporation and Bandai Namco Holdings provide Gaudiy, the new operator of Myanimelist, fresh capital. We summarize.

Five-point plan

Just a few weeks ago, the web3 and AI company Gaudiy took over the users registered with around 19.5 million (99 % of them from Japan) largest anime database website Myanimelist for 531 million yen (3.3 million euros), which now ensures a first major escape rain.

The Sony Group Corporation and Bandai Namco Holdings together invest 10 billion yen (around 61 million euros) in Gaudiy. This capital will be used for the following five key areas in the future:

Sensible partnership

The participation of Sony is in line with his own “Creative Entertainment Vision”, a long-term strategy that focuses on the expansion of the IP value and the deepening of the fan engagement in games, music and anime. The investment is part of earlier strategic steps, such as taking over Crunchyroll (2021) and investing in Kadokawa (2024).

The investment also makes sense for Bandai Namco, after all, the new CW360 department has recently founded, which has the task of improving fans’ commitment and providing optimized products and services. Cooperation with Gaudiy and Sony is the first big initiative.

Yuya Ishikawa, CEO of Gaudiy, was enthusiastic about the cooperation: “It is an honor to be able to enter into a partnership with companies that represent Japan – like Sony and Bandai Namco.”

He added: »At Gaudiy we pursue the vision of creating so -called› fan nations ‹, and continuously looking for ways to develop values from the passions of people and to distribute these values fairly. I am convinced that entertainment media have the strength to change Japan and the world. «

In any case, it will be exciting to observe how the three companies bundle their strengths in order to sustainably promote the international distribution of Japanese content and at the same time to involve the enthusiasm of the fans.
