The Japanese city of Gyoda recently announced that Tanjiro from “Demon Slayer” would be transformed into a rice field artwork. We summarize.

Huge travel art

Since 2015, the city of Gyoda in Saitama, Japan, has been holding the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest rice field and has made it a tradition of transforming around 2.8 hectares, which measures the size of four and a half soccer fields to a work of art from different types of ripeness.

In the past there have been some anime motifs, such as “Dragon Quest” (2016) and the football series “AO Ashi” (2022). Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of “Demon Slayer”, was selected for this year.

The planting begins on June 14, 2025 and of course takes place by hand, which is why the organizers are still looking for around 300 helpers who can apply online. You don’t get any money, but after the harvest in December a sack of rice.

Around in July, the travel artwork should bloom in full colors-and thus in good time for the cinema publication of the first part of the “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc” film trilogy, which celebrates its premiere in Japan on July 18, 2025.
