When the anime adaptation of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” said goodbye to the fans in 2023 for an indefinite period-and the reason is obvious. We summarize.

Too many fillers

Anime fans are usually destroyed when a beloved series comes to an end. However, using the example of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations”, the continuation of “Naruto Shippuden”, became clear that this is not always the case.

Of course there were a few long faces when those responsible for “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” announced after a continuous radiation of 293 episodes on March 9, 2023 that the series will take a break, but a large part of the fans looked very positive.

While the two predecessors “Naruto” and “Naruto Shippuden” were already heavily criticized due to their very large filler share of around 40 %, “Boruto” has set new records: only 88 of the 293 emitted episodes sprang up. In other words: 70 % of the anime are filler episodes.

Studio Pierrot has never officially commented on the reasons for the break, but the circumstances point to the obvious, namely that the anime was initially put on hold due to its poor reception among fans.

Beginning from the end?

This is by no means a precedent, after all, the studio already did the same with “Bleach” in 2012, after the anime was also criticized for years because of its many filler episodes (around 45 %).

Now, many fans are justified whether it is really just a break, or maybe even the beginning of the end. However, due to the recent publications and statements at Studio Pierrot, you can calm down.

After all, “Bleach” also returned with the “Thousand-Year Blood War” and shone with better animations and a manga-loving adaptation. This is also accompanied by Pierrot’s new strategy, in which you turn away from long-term anime and focus on one-courses (around 12 episodes).

“Boruto” fans can only wait excitedly and hope that a sequel will not be a proud ten years as in the case of “Bleach”.
