One of the most interesting aspects of Netflix’s The Grimm Variations is how the streaming service tweaked the fairytales by German writers, the Brothers Grimm. Most of the stories are shifted to a very dark edge, though, playing on how the lore, even before the brothers, was much more macabre.
It gave rise to some very thought-provoking episodes that have been adapted for modern consumption. Some of the topics are, to this day, considered quite testy. With that in mind, here is a look at how the unconventional array of episodes stacked up.
This chapter dissected the life of N, a novelist who was too lazy to go after his dream. He was talented at writing stories but lacked a work ethic. The elf who helped him was a magical young girl. She spruced up his scripts and crafted new stories for him to sell. He became rich and famous, but rather than grow inspired to do more, he became dependent on her. He settled into a comfort zone.
