The Japanese company Toho announced today that the new original film “Scarlet” (Japanese: “Habeshi Naki Scarlet”) will start in Japanese cinemas on November 21, 2025. You can see a first teaser below.

“Scarlet” is created under the direction of “Belle” director Mamoru Hosoda (“The girl who jumped through time”), who also wrote the original story and the script, in the studio Chizu.
In the course of the announcement, Hosoda said that his film would use a new visual style that differed from 2D and Hollywood CG animation. Based on a “global classic” and a mixture of action and romance, the work should stand out from his previous work.
Sony Pictures is responsible for sales outside of Japan and will bring the evening filler to the US cinemas from December 12, 2025. It is still open whether the strip is also shown in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
