The X-user @clarinht has found out the current animators at various Japanese anime studios and created a ranking. We summarize all the details for you below.
Best paying studios
In recent years, the poor working conditions of animators in the anime industry have been a determining topic that repeatedly made high waves and even caused the United Nations to draw the Japanese government aware of it with a critical report.
After reporting on the first measures and changes a few weeks ago, it is of course crucial how they affect the animators’ wallet. Now a current X contribution provided more information.
According to this, the studios A-1 Pictures and Cloverwork belonging to Anlex (Sony) with a monthly basic salary of 274,000 yen (around 1,674 euros) (as of March 2025) are currently the highest income.
This is followed by Twin Engine with 260,000 yen (around 1,588 euros), cygamespictures with 256,055 yen (around 1,564 euros), Yostar pictures with 252,000 yen (approximately 1,539 euros) and Kinema Citrus, where the content of 224,000 yen (about 1,368 euros) automatically at 253,900 yen (about 1.551 Euro) increases.
The amounts given are only the fixed basic content without any surcharges or overtime.
Greatest wage increases
Although these numbers do not look very high at first glance, they have noticeably improved compared to two years ago. Many studios increased the salaries by 10,000 to 30,000 yen (around 61 to 183 euros), although, similar to the previous ranking, there were individual studios with significant increases.
A-1 pictures and cloverwork are particularly noteworthy, in which the salaries rose by a remarkable 55,000 yen (around 335 euros). C2C also records a strong increase with an increase of 50,000 yen (305 euros).
Other noteworthy salary increases at OLM for 42,500 yen (around 259 euros), Kinema Citrus for 34,000 yen (approx. 207 euros) with an additional increase of 29,000 yen (about 177 euros) after six months, cygamespictures by 32.721 yen (approximately 199 euros) and trigger (about 198 euros) with more 24,240 yen (around 147 euros) after half a year.
In any case, a positive change for the situation in the anime industry can be observed-however, it is still in need of improvement.
