10 Times Goku’s Power Pole Saved Day in Dragon Ball & DBZ

One of the most gratifying aspects of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is that there’s such a clear sense of growth and progress in its characters and storytelling. This can be seen on a more granular level in each individual series, but it’s even more evident when the entire Dragon Ball franchise is taken into account. Goku has become an extremely powerful hero with the power of a God who can fly at high velocity speeds, release planet-destroying energy attacks, and teleport across the universe. That being said, Goku’s earliest adventures in the original series treat his durable, extendable Power Pole as one of his strongest weapons and an essential tool that he never leaves behind.
Goku’s Power Pole is a gift that he receives from Grandpa Gohan, and it’s an item that actually serves an important purpose regarding the planet’s balance. However, the majority of the original Dragon Ball — as well as some of Dragon Ball Z — treat the Power Pole as a reliable battle tool and means of transportation that helps Goku get through impossible situations. Goku’s Power Pole is set to make a major return in 2024’s Dragon Ball DAIMA, which makes it the perfect time to revisit some of the item’s best applications and all the times that it’s helped save the day.
Goku primarily utilizes the Power Pole as a malleable and durable weapon in battle. The Power Pole is exceptional in this capacity, but the original Dragon Ball gradually reveals the Power Pole’s true purpose, which actually has nothing to do with combat. Goku obtained the Power Pole from Grandpa Gohan, who in turn received it from Master Roshi after he ascended Korin Tower. Goku eventually climbs Korin Tower himself and proceeds to learn that there’s an even higher sanctuary above it in the clouds, Kami’s Lookout. Goku can’t fly yet, so access to Kami’s Lookout seems impossible.
