Hirohiko Araki, the author and illustrator behind the famed JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise, unveiled his first public art piece for the JR Osaka Station in Japan. Titled “The Fountain Boy,” the artwork is not only stunning in itself but also doubles as an official ranking of the strongest Stands in the JoJo series.
Translated by JoJo’s Bizarre Encyclopedia, Japanese news website Oricon was present during the unveiling of Araki’s spherical piece of art. Araki’s artwork is based on the original “Fountain Boy” statue that was on display at Osaka Station for 103 years until it was moved to the Kyoto Railway Museum for preservation. As expected of the famous manga artist, Araki adds his own ‘bizarre’ twist to the legendary statue by using the series’ stylish characters as projections of natural phenomenons, in keeping with the traditions of Romanian public fountains. Given their strong and supernatural nature, JoJo’s signature Stands are used to represent these natural forces and — according to Araki — are ranked by their strength and power.
November Rain, the Stand of Jodio Joestar from The JOJOLands, sits comfortably at the top. At the bottom left of November Rain is Star Platinum (Stardust Crusaders), while Killer Queen (Diamond is Unbreakable) is to its right. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (Steel Ball Run) is located at the left of the public art piece, while Stone Free (Stone Ocean) and Gold Experience (Vento Aureo) are found in the middle. Finally, Tusk, the Stand of Johnny Joestar in Steel Ball Run, is located to the right of Araki’s artwork. The giant human figure is Araki’s take on the original model of “The Fountain Boy.”
