Why the Meme Ship Between Jujutsu Kaisen’s Nanami & Disney’s Princess Tiana Just Works

Crossover ships are very popular in anime fan culture. There are many diverse ships between anime characters from different franchises in fanart tags and fanfiction archives. Character crossover relationships incorporating anime and other forms of media do happen, but it’s rare that those pairings take off in popularity, like the fan romance pairing of Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen and Princess Tiana from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.
Nanami and Tiana are one of several Jujutsu Kaisen/Disney ships. The other pairings are more on the crack ship side of the spectrum, like the bizarre (but hilarious) pairing between the King of Curses, Sukuna, and the Disney princess, Cinderella (fondly referred to as Sukunella). Nanami and Tiana stand apart from the rest because fans genuinely adore the pairing and think that the couple would have a lovely life together in some alternate universe.
Jujutsu Kaisen has always been a popular franchise since its start, both as a manga and as an anime adaptation. The second half of JJK‘s Season 2 took things to a completely different level, especially when it came to side characters, like Kento Nanami and Choso. Nanami was always a well-developed character, but he definitely had a bit of a makeover when it came to art style, and he has some significant character moments (for better and worse) in the latter half of Season 2. Satoru Gojo is the Jujutsu Kaisen darling, but Nanami rose rather quickly to fan favorite status when he came to Yuji’s rescue in Shibuya.
