The Fate of the Revolutionary Army in One Piece, Explained

Over the course of many years, the One Piece manga/anime franchise has introduced fans to a remarkable variety of factions and groups, ranging from the Seven Warlords of the Sea the and Four Emperors to the World Government and many pirate crews. That includes the Revolutionary Army, which ranks among the world’s most consequential and powerful factions despite how little screen time it gets. This Army stands for all downtrodden and oppressed people, and its members would sooner face death than bow to the World Government.
By now, One Piece fans are familier with a few key members of this group, from Dragon and Sabo to Emporio Ivankov, and with the final saga taking shape, fans can make educated guesses about what role the Army will play once the world’s future is decided. That also makes it easier to estimate what the Revolutionary Army’s fate will be, whether it succeeds in its mission or faces overwhelming defeat at the Navy’s hands. Luffy might succeed where the Army fails, but even so, if Dragon’s coalition is defeated, then that’s bad news for all of One Piece‘s heroes, and no one wants that fate for them.
The Revolutionary Army’s role in One Piece can be described in two different ways: in-universe and from a narrative standpoint. In-universe, the Revolutionary Army’s mission is to stand up to the villainous World Government and, more specifically, the Celestial Dragons and other nobles who benefit from the World Government’s cruel, exploitative regime. The Revolutionary Army represents the common people’s defiance against such an unfair world order, an expression of their seething discontent and their desire for freedom from tyranny. For years, the Revolutionary Army chipped away at the World Government’s power and influence across the four seas for that very purpose, with the presumed ultimate goal of overthrowing the entire World Government so all islands nations may rule themselves independently.
